Ector Rothchild was one of three people commissioned by the Baron to work on his now-defunct Automaton Project, along with Luther Clockwise and an unnamed Engineer. Ector resented Clockwise and the two apparently argued extensively. This lead to Clockwise taking various parts of the prototype and hiding them around the City so that Ector couldn't complete the project and claim it for himself.[1]
Ector serves as one of the game's two Clients, and may be found in his shop Ector's Emporium within the Gullet in Stonemarket. The inventor tasks Garrett with retrieving the three items needed to complete his 'metal man.' Once this is done, Ector intends to flee the City to sell his automaton to the rival city-state of Blackbrook.[2]
