The first area of Chapter 2, the Main Gate of the Vale Street Ironworks is a fairly large, open area: beyond the initial gate leading back toward Cinderall, a sturdy iron bridge spans a large canal, which has since dried up, and leads across the yard to the foundry's main entrance.
At the beginning of the chapter, Garrett may observe two Watchmen abusing a pair of beggars, who have been "recruited" to pull a heavy wooden cart containing the bodies of Gloom victims into the foundry.
There are two means of access from this area to the Dust Yard beyond, with the less direct route requiring use of the Wrench to access the vent in the canal.
