Northcrest Courtyard

Home to Baron Elias Northcrest, this monumental structure is the seat of power in the City. It is the only location to serve as setting for two separate chapters.

History[]

The building known as Northcrest Manor has been the property of the City's Northcrest Barons for several generations. Under Harland Northcrest, it became the site of decadent, lecherous, opium-filled parties that would forever tarnish the memory of Harland's reign. Harland's son, Elias, was particularly disgusted by his father's habits, and vowed to remain focused on progress and industry, converting the chapel into a vault for the Northcrest family heirloom,[1] and constructing both a Ceremony Room and underground laboratory to advance his experiments into the Primal.

Events of Thief[]

The mansion is initially infiltrated by Garrett and Erin during their ill-fated mission to steal the Primal Stone. The resulting explosion completely destroys the Ceremony Room, along with a great part of the surrounding wing.

It is not seen again until a year later, during the events of Chapter 6. By this point, Northcrest Manor has become the final bastion of Watch authority in the City, and it is revealed that all staff have been let go in preparation for the Graven assault.[2][3] Garrett must infiltrate the manor and question the Baron before the revolutionaries arrive.

The manor's front entrance has been barricaded, and as a result of the Ceremony Room having been destroyed by the events of the previous year, the thief must take the long way around, through the more residential areas of the manor on the building's left side. During Garrett's infiltration, the Graven attack and overwhelm the Baron's guards, before setting fire to a large part of the mansion.[4]

It can be assumed that the Baron is ultimately killed during the assault, and the manor heavily damaged, if not outright destroyed.
